Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 30, 2026
Neon Grain Studio ("we", "us", or "our") develops and maintains the CapCart: AI Grocery Tracker mobile application (the "Service" or "App"). This Privacy Policy details how CapCart handles data, device permissions, camera access, artificial intelligence processing, and your privacy rights.
1. Information We Do NOT Collect
We believe that personal grocery lists and shopping habits are private. CapCart operates without requiring personal identity information:
- No User Account: You do not need to register, provide an email address, phone number, name, or social logins to use CapCart.
- No Personal Financial Information: CapCart does not link to your bank accounts, credit cards, payment methods, or digital wallets. Trip budgets and item prices are simply numerical tallies manually set or scanned by you.
- No Behavioral Tracking / Cross-App Profiling: We do not monitor your browsing behavior or share your grocery shopping items with data brokers or advertisers.
2. Device Permissions and Data Access
To enable CapCart's grocery tracking and price tag recognition features, the application requests access to specific hardware capabilities:
-
Camera Access (
android.permission.CAMERA,NSCameraUsageDescription): CapCart uses the camera to allow you to scan shelf price tags, shelf labels, and grocery items in real time while shopping in stores. Camera frames are captured only when you initiate a scan. CapCart does not run background camera recording, does not capture facial biometrics, and does not record audio. -
Photo Library Access (
NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription): If you choose to import a photo of a shelf tag or receipt from your device storage, CapCart accesses only the specific photo selected by you. We do not inspect, upload, or catalog your photo library. -
Network Access (
android.permission.INTERNET): Network access is required for AI-powered price tag recognition, sending cropped price tag images securely via encrypted HTTPS to Google Gemini AI API endpoints for text and price extraction.
3. AI Vision Processing & Shelf Tag Recognition
When you scan a price tag or capture a shelf photo:
- On-Device Cropping: Only the specific viewfinder crop containing the shelf price tag is prepared for text and price recognition.
- Encrypted API Transmission: The cropped image is securely transmitted over TLS/HTTPS to Google Gemini API servers solely for optical recognition, item name detection, and price extraction.
- Transient Analysis: The image data is processed transiently by the AI model to return structured grocery metadata (item name, price, and category) to your device. The API integration does not retain your personal photos to build user profiles.
- User Review & Confirmation: All AI recognition results are presented on a confirmation sheet where you can review, edit, rename, correct prices, or delete before anything is added to your cart.
4. Local Storage on Device
CapCart utilizes an embedded high-performance local database (Hive) stored securely on your device's internal application sandbox:
- Active & Historic Trips: Your grocery trip names, budget allocations, item names, categories, quantities, unit prices, and completion timestamps.
- App Preferences: Your selected currency symbol (e.g. ₱, $, €, £), UI theme preference (System, Light, Dark), and display settings.
This data resides strictly on your physical device. It is never synced to external cloud databases maintained by Neon Grain Studio. You can permanently delete this data at any time by clearing the application storage via your device settings or uninstalling the app.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
CapCart integrates minimal third-party infrastructure to deliver its core AI recognition features:
- Google Gemini AI API: Provides multimodal vision intelligence for analyzing price tag images. Google processes this request according to Google's Cloud & AI data protection and privacy policies.
6. Children's Privacy
CapCart is a general-purpose utility app intended for shoppers managing grocery budgets. It does not solicit or knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in certain jurisdictions). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to safeguard your information. All local data is isolated within the platform's protected sandbox storage, and any network communication with AI vision services occurs exclusively over encrypted HTTPS connections.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy periodically to reflect new features or legal requirements. Any modifications will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
